Responsibilities- This skilled position is responsible for inspections, plan review, issuing permits, and recording data for residential and commercial permit applications.
- Plans, materials and workmanship are inspected and/or reviewed for compliance with city codes and ordinances regulating construction, alteration, installation, and repair of buildings, building appurtenances, building systems, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems and equipment.
- Good communication skills when working with the public, property owners, contractors and design professionals at the building inspection service counter and in the course of conducting an inspection.
- High School Diploma or GED and considerable experience in the building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades at the full-skilled crafts level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge of construction principles and practices application to residential and commercial buildings.
- Applicants should have the ability to read and interpret construction documents.
- Effective written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Ability to work independently performing plan reviews or field inspections and must make decisions requiring independent judgment; however technical advice and assistance are available from supervisors on difficult or unusual cases.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with design professionals, contractors and the public.
- The ability to deal effectively with individuals involved in the construction field is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required at time of application, a mvr check will be conducted.
- Pay range increase with applicable ICC certification(s).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- High School Diploma or GED
