Job Description

Role : Penalty Review Specialist-1350

Estimated Duration : 6 months

Location : Phoenix, AZ (hybrid)

Position Description

Primary Duties :

• Analyze data and evidence from applicants seeking abatement.
• Request and evaluate additional information to make informed decisions per statutes and tax laws.
• Educate taxpayers on filing requirements and recommend solutions for nonconformance.
• Prepare files for hearings and testify on behalf of the Arizona Department of Revenue.
• Develop and manage recordkeeping and accounting systems using current technology.
• Use automated systems to analyze financial records in accordance with standards.

Detailed Duties :

• Recommend and implement solutions to financial issues.
• Communicate effectively with diverse groups and governmental personnel.
• Prepare clear, concise summaries and written communications.
• Represent the department at informal hearings.
• Apply statutes, laws, and procedures to assess penalties and interest.
• Manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and other computerized systems.
• Problem-solving requiring analytical and evaluative thinking.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

• Some college in accounting, business, or related field or two years of professional experience.
• Spanish speaking is a plus.

Skills Required

Google Suite and / or Microsoft Programs - particularly proficient in Sheets / Excel and Gmail. Research, analytical and critical thinking, problem solving.

Experience Required

Understands accounting and mathematical principles, written and verbal communication

Education Required

Some college with major coursework in accounting, business or a closely related field or two years of professional experience
