Job Description

The Law Office of John H. Polk, (Polk Firm) is seeking an associate with 3 -5 years of experience to add to our growing practice, who will be working primarily on Family Law cases. The Polk Firm has been in business for over 40 years in Houston, Texas.

While we are looking for an individual with experience in Family Law, the Polk Firm specializes in Taxation, Commercial Real Estate, and Probate and Estate Planning and we would like to hire an attorney who is willing to learn and grow into new areas of law.

Responsibilities

Compensation for this position is based upon experience

• Consult with new and existing clients on key legal issues
• Represent clients in courtroom proceedings, including trial
• Negotiate settlement agreements, and rule 11 agreements,
• Prepare for and attend depositions, mediation and/or arbitration,
• Manage a case with little or no oversight, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, witness and trial preparation and prepare all documents required for the case
• Organize the case file, calendar all deadlines and be responsible for keeping the case moving forward to resolution.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Looking for a candidate with courtroom experience, preferably in Harris and Fort Bend Counties, and who has handled cases on their own in their current or previous employment.
• Need a thorough understanding of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and be familiar with the different parts of a family law or civil litigation case.
• A self-motivated individual to develop the case and lead our clients in the courtroom.
• The candidate is to be professional, personable, highly organized, efficient, proactive, trustworthy, and resourceful.
• A candidate should have a desire to problem solve and work in a competitive yet positive atmosphere.
• This individual should be capable of handling a case from beginning to end while maintaining a high level of competence and client satisfaction.
