JOB SUMMARY The Education Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the initial orientation and all on-going education and competency programs to meet requirements of federal, state and accrediting bodies. Responsibilities also include coordination and placement of nursing students and intern/observation clinical experiences at the VNA for home health, hospice and mother/ baby programs. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collaborates with managers to develop, conduct and document orientation activities for all employees. 2. Collaborates with department managers to assess for and provide on-going continuing education, training, and competency activities to meet departmental, agency, regulatory requirements and strategic initiatives. 3. Oversees the records management of all orientation and continuing education activities to meet network, agency and regulatory standards. 4. Collaborates with other SLUHN departments and outside organizations to utilize resources for the provision of quality, effective education to agency employees. 5. Evaluates the education program on an annual basis to determine achievement of outcomes and opportunities for improvement... 6. Manages the cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certification program for staff and validates the competency of CPR instructors at a minimum of every other year. 7. Collaborates with Network leaders in the provision of education to Network employees that impacts the continuum of care. 8. Chairs and/or serves as advisor to the VNA Patient Education Committee and serves as a member on other committees as requested. 9. Collaborates with institutional faculty and departmental leaders for the placement of nursing and other students/interns for clinical education experiences at VNA. 10. Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development. 11. Demonstrates the ability to use appropriate computer software. 12. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. 13. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). 14. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. 15. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. 16. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. 17. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. 18. Maintains certification as a BLS Instructor. OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Medium Work Exertional activity 1. Being able to frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds is often more critical that being able to lift up to 50 lbs at a time 4. Stand and/or walk at least 6 hours in an 8-hour work day 5. Very few medium occupations in the national economy are performed primarily in a sitting position Nonexertional activity 1. Stooping (bending at the waist) and crouching (stooping and bending at the knee) – required frequently in most medium jobs 2. Handling (grasping) – required frequently in most medium jobs 3. Fingering (fine manipulation) – required only occasionally in most medium jobs Important: The functional capacity to perform medium work includes the functional capacity to perform sedentary and light work Good physical and mental health. Neat, clean, free from body odors, conforms to the uniform code. Visual and auditory acuity required to provide job functions. Physical stamina for walking, standing, turning, stooping and bending, lifting, and stretching for performance of the job duties. Finger and hand dexterity necessary to handle office equipment Environmental Conditions: Inside – Office environment Outside – traveling to perform duties in extreme cold and heat, wet and/or humid conditions, snow, ice and /or fog. Hazards - road and driving QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM) EDUCATION: Registered Professional Nurse with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Certification as BLS instructor required. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years Community Health or Home Health experience or 1 year in Education.
