Position Title: The H. Corbin Day Director of Finance (CFO)

Position Description: A key member of the Museum’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Director of Finance shall function as the institution’s Chief Financial Officer, reporting directly to the Museum’s Deputy Director and serving as a critical partner for the Director / CEO and ELT in modeling and tracking the Museum’s growth strategy. In addition, the Director of Finance will lead all day-to-day finance and accounting operations for the Museum, including budgeting and financial planning, accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grant reporting), compliance, and reporting activities. The Director of Finance will also support the Director / CEO in reporting to the Museum Board and the Finance Committee and will work closely with the city of Birmingham’s financial staff to assure proper use and accounting of city funds directed toward the Museum. In addition this individual will be responsible for financial reporting related to supporting organizations (BMA Endowment, Art Fund, Inc., BMA Support, Inc. and BMA Foundation, Inc).

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a leader with seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience (with three to five years managing a team), ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. Experience planning or overseeing costs associated with a major capital project is preferred.
