  • The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is recruiting Internally and Externally for the position of
    Accounting Clerk within the Office of Finance and Budget. This is a Non-Represented position.

    Position Title: Accounting Clerk

    Posting Period: February 28, 2024 through March 15, 2024

    Salary Range: $50,915.70 to $63,644.61 Annum (Grade 913)

    Position Reports To: Senior Accountant (AR/AP)

    Union Affiliation: Non-Represented

    Summary of Position:
    This is a non-represented position in the Finance Department responsible for coordinating with various
    departments in assisting with the distribution of fare products to all riders as needed and for assisting the Chief
    Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Director of Financial Planning and Analysis with the tracking of product
    distribution and availability to ensure adequate supply of products. This position will also assist with various
    accounts receivable and payable functions and other day-to-day clerical duties and departmental projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Respond to inquiries by vendors and customers ensuring they receive the information they need;
    • Assist employees as needed by providing benefit balances and handling payments for employee share of

    benefit costs;

    • Answers calls to finance department in professional manner providing general information, redirecting calls

    as appropriate, and taking/distributing complete messages;

    • Assists with vendor onboarding by completing credit applications;
    • Fulfills orders within WAVE fare collection system by packaging and distributing WAVE cards and other

    fare products as orders arise and prepares invoices for customers electing to be invoiced;

    • Assists third-party entities and bulk fare product purchasers in understanding the fare product options that

    best meet their needs and available resources;

    • Responds to request from entities not on WAVE system to ensure they have products for distribution and

    handles both invoicing and payment related to these transactions;

    • Collaborates with multiple departments, to ensure all customer needs related to fare products are being

    met;

    • Assists with periodic audit of WAVE portals to ensure appropriate products are being offered and general

    integrity of system is maintained;

    • Maintains daily GFI farebox to revenue reconciliation report;
    • Responsible for all accounts payable, including matching of purchase orders to vendor invoices and filing

    invoices by date to ensure invoices are paid at appropriate date;

    • Assists Senior Accountant by receiving, documenting, and preparing checks for deposit;
    • Performs general office duties in support of the Finance Department including, but not limited to, copying,
    mailing, filing, and other miscellaneous tasks;
    • Assists the payroll department with sorting and distribution of payroll checks, including attachment of

    memos and documents as needed by the Authority;

    • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

    • Must be well-versed in customer service and possess excellent interpersonal skills/phone etiquette;
    • Must be flexible when encountering tight time schedules and to effectively interact with internal and external
    contacts;
    • Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and priorities with accuracy
    and close attention to detail;
    • Must be able to meet strict deadlines and work extended hours when necessary.

    Education:
    • High School Diploma or GED and the equivalent of an associate degree required.
    • Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

    Experience:
    • Experience with accounting/general ledger systems is helpful;
    • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel;
    • Excellent problem solving and time management skills;
    • Ability to work well both independently and with a team.

    and experience.

    Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and priorities with accuracy and
    close attention to detail.

    Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, follow directions well and follow through
    with assignments until completed.
