Customization Tool

The use of ITG Competency Model data expedites the roll out of your talent management initiative, and the use of the ITG Customization Tool expedites the tailoring of the Competency Model data to the specifics of your environment.

The tool provides ITG competency model data integrated into a set of interlinked Microsoft Excel workbooks. Microsoft Excel was chosen as the underlying data management software for the tool because it is ubiquitous in business and is relatively simple to work with. It also means you will not encounter any delays due to technology reviews and acceptance prior to being able to begin your project.

The tool offers basic functionality that allows you to:
    • Customize team roles and associated competencies and proficiency requirements.
    • Add, delete and change any aspect of the model components (Profiles, Competencies, Jobs, and Learning References).
    • Add, delete and change data relationships and links between them.
    • Make global changes to accommodate company-specific language (e.g., 'employee' vs. 'associate,' 'job' vs. 'role’).

Included with the Excel workbooks is a detailed Customization Guide which will lead you through the customization process while maintaining the integrity of your data. The goal of the Customization Tool is to provide a user-friendly facility for making needed changes while minimizing the learning curve required for someone to become proficient in making the changes.

When you have completed the customization process, ITG will perform a one-time conversion of your data from the Excel workbooks into flat files for upload into your talent management system at no additional cost to you, or you can export the data directly yourself.

The sample provided shows a brief excerpt from one of our Customization Tool Job Profile workbooks. The “go to” hyperlinks shown enable the user to jump to detailed descriptions of the corresponding job and competency descriptions to assist the user in the proper assignment of correct proficiency level values (shown in red) for the competencies assigned.

Other Customization Tool workbooks facilitate tailoring of the wording of job and competency descriptions to fit how they are performed in your environment. Another workbook is provided to allow you to incorporate your own internal training/learning resources into the default set of learning references that come with the model.
